If you like to have more control over the price of your product, you can go ahead and chose fixed price selling format. So, you can straightaway set the price that you want for your item. All fixed price items are set to Good ’til Cancelled duration. That means your item(s) should either sold or you have to cancel the listing manually to stop selling. And, your item will be automatically relisted every 30 days.
Also, you can add the Best offer option to invite the buyers to negotiate with you. When a buyer makes an offer, you can accept, decline, or make a counteroffer. Actually, this negotiation option can drastically increase your chances of making a sale.
Step 7 – Setting the quantity when creating a listing on eBay

Alright, before we go any further, we need to understand how selling fees on eBay works. So, here we will quickly discuss the fees associated with selling on eBay.
eBay selling fees and payments
There are five eBay selling fees and payments that you need to consider.
Note: Below values are applicable for those who are selling on eBay.com. If you are selling on eBay.au or eBay.uk, these values can change accordingly.
- Insertion fee – The fee to list an item on eBay. For most of the categories, every month you will get 50 zero insertion fee listings.
If you need to create more than 50 listings per month, you have to pay $0.35 per additional listing. The eBay insertion fee can vary depending on your product category. For example, if you sell heavy equipment parts on eBay, you will need to pay $20 per listing.
If you have a “Good ‘Til Cancelled” listing, you will get automatically charged for an insertion fee every 30 days.
- Final value fee – A certain percentage of the sales price. Unlike the insertion fee, you only have to pay the final value fee after making a sale on eBay.
For most categories, the final value fee is 10% of the final price. The final price includes the shipping and handling charges. If the product you sell on eBay is located in the US, and if you offer cheaper shipping options (along with 1-day shipping), the cheapest shipping option will be used for the final value calculation. Otherwise, it will be calculated based on the shipping option chosen by the buyer.
If anyhow the buyer didn’t pay for your product, make sure to cancel the sale or report for an unpaid item to get final value fee refund.
- Additional final value fee – If you are an underperforming seller or if you violate eBay policies, you will have to pay an extra 5% of the final value fee. But, if you can stay above the standard seller performance for the US or as a top-rated seller, this charge will not be applicable for you. - Fees for additional services – You can purchase other features like having a bold listing for better attention, subtitles, and gallery-plus, or services like getting eBay shipping labels. For such cases, you will be charged for the services you use.
- Taxes – Depending on where you live, Value Added Tax (VAT), Goods and Services Tax (GST) or a similar tax will be charged in addition to your eBay fees. Read eBay’s full tax policy.
Let us try an example: You just sold a pair of shoes on eBay for $49.99. You don’t have any zero insertion fee listings available for this month. So, you had to pay a $0.35 insertion fee. Also, you have used subtitle feature for your listing, which cost you $1.50.
- Insertion fee = $0.35
- Final value fee = $5.99 (10% of $59.99)

Here we will talk about how to set up the shipping options for your listings, how to calculate the shipping rates, how to estimate the delivery time, international shipping, printing labels, packing, tracking and how to handle return shipping on eBay.
How to set up the shipping options for your items
When you create a listing on eBay, you can find a section to add the shipping details. And, there you have to fill in the domestic and international shipping information, product weight, product dimensions, excluded shipping locations, and the item’s origin location.
Select the domestic shipping services and rates for eBay
Under domestic shipping, you can find a dropdown list to select one of below four options:
- Calculated: When you choose calculated, the shipping cost varies by the location of the buyer. You can use the eBay shipping calculator to get an estimated shipping cost for a different location.
- Flat: When you select a flat rate for shipping, you can define your own shipping rate table for different regions and areas.
- Freight: You can select freight option for the large and bulky items over 150lbs.
- No shipping: Local pickup options are useful for the products that are large and difficult to ship. There you can enter the Zip code of the item’s location, and the buyer can collect the item in person. When you offer local pickup, make sure to get proof of delivery (signed invoice or receipt) to protect you from any disputes.
Then, you can select your preferred shipping service(s). If you offer flat-rate shipping, you can enter the shipping costs by creating a shipping rate table. Next set your handling time (the time to hand over the item to the shipping company) and complete the product details.

When it comes to the international shipping, you can either use eBay global shipping program (only if the item is physically located in the US) or select your own shipping services, as you did for the domestic shipping.
If you chose to use eBay’s global shipping program, all you have to do is handing over the product to their domestic shipping center. Then, they will manage the shipping and give you tracking information. The only advantage of using the eBay global shipping program is, you don’t have to handle the money back guarantee cases. And, even if anything goes wrong, you seller standards won’t get affected.
If you chose to ship by yourself, the same as for the domestic shipping, you would find two types of shipping rates.
When you use Flat-rate shipping:
- Select either Worldwide or Choose a custom location to specify the countries that you are selling to.
- Select the shipping service(s) for your listings. You can use the eBay shipping calculator to get an estimated shipping cost for different services.
- Enter your shipping rate.
- Enter your item details (package type, dimensions, and weight).
- You can also create a list of the countries that you don’t want to ship to.
- Enter your item’s location.
When you use Calculated shipping:
- Select either Worldwide or Choose custom location to specify the countries that you are selling to.
- Select the shipping service(s) for your listings. You can use the eBay shipping calculator to get an estimated shipping cost for different services.
- Add handling rates (if applicable).
- Enter your item details (package type, dimensions, and weight).
- You can also create a list of the countries that you don’t want ship to.
- Enter your item’s location.
Filling in the customs forms
Customs is a government organization, which regulates all the shipments going in and out of a country. So, when you sell on eBay and ship your items to another country, you need to fill a set of forms to declare your item to the customs.
You can get your customs declaration forms from your shipping company. For example, if you use USPS as your shipping company, you will get two forms (Green tag 2979 and White form 2976-A) depending on the service and the item value. You need to fill these forms before you print the labels on eBay. You can usually find these forms from your shipping company’s website.
Extra information – Find HS codes for your item
Even though you fill all these forms, usually the buyer pays the customs duties and other clearance fees. It is better adding this information in your listing. Add a small note in your description to state that the” import duties, taxes, and charges aren’t included in the item price or postage cost. These charges are the buyer’s responsibility.”
How to print shipping labels and packing slips for your items on eBay
You can get the shipping labels from the post office or your shipping company. Also, most of the shipping companies offer shipping label creation feature from their websites.
But, if you want to make things easy, you can also print these labels on eBay itself. When you print shipping labels on eBay, the costs of the labels are charged to your account. There are advantages of printing labels on eBay. First, it is easy to do everything in a single place. Next, for some shipping companies, you will get concessionary prices for selling on eBay.
How to print a shipping label and packing slip through on eBay?
- Go to the My eBay Sold.
- Go to your sold item and select Print shipping label.
- Check (and edit, if required) the Ship to or Ship from address.
- Enter the package details for type, weight, and dimensions.
- Enter the mailing date for Ship on the dropdown menu.
- Select your preferred shipping service.
- Select Purchase and print label and follow the steps shown to print your label.
- If you want to create and print a packing slip, select Open package slip.
- If your order is packed in multiple packages, you need to print labels for each package. After printing the label for the first package, select Print another label for this order from the label management page. Then, enter the package details for the next package. - Provide your own return shipping label. You can purchase a shipping label from your preferred shipping company and send an image of that label to the buyer. To send the shipping label, Go to the Return shipping dashboard, select View return details, select the camera icon, select the label, select the carrier, and enter the tracking number.
- Use the eBay return shipping label. You can also send eBay shipping label to your buyer. But, if you use eBay shipping label, returns are shipped by either USPS first class or Priority mail. So, you need to take care of these costs. To send an eBay shipping label, Go to the Return shipping dashboard, select View return details, select Send an eBay shipping label.

How to handle returns and refunds on eBay
Here is everything you need to know about managing returns and refunds on eBay. If something goes wrong or the buyer changes their mind, you might need to accept the returns and refund the buyer.
Unlike selling an item in a brick and motor store, when you sell online, there is a higher chance of getting return and refund requests. While taking necessary actions to minimize the return and refund requests (which we will talk in a minute), you also need to have a good idea about how to handle return and refund requests when selling on eBay.
What if the buyer doesn’t receive the item?
If a buyer doesn’t receive an item even after the estimated delivery date, they will raise an “item not received” request. So, you will get a message from eBay to your message box and registered email.
Once a buyer raises an” item not delivered” request, the payments for that sale will be put on hold. eBay will release your payments after resolving the issue. You got 3 business days to resolve such requests. Here are the options to resolve an “item not received” request.
- If you have the tracking information to prove the item was delivered, Add tracking details, the courier service that you have used, and a note to the buyer. If the item were actually delivered, this information would show the date of delivery and the address it was delivered to. Also, if the item is worth more than $750, it will also show the signature of the recipient.
- If you don’t have the tracking information, you will have to Refund the buyer (including the original shipping cost). In most cases, we use economy postage for low-cost items. So, you will not have tracking information for all the items you sell. In such cases, if you have added “accept returns and refunds” in your listing, you will have to pay a refund for items that were not delivered.
- If the tracking information shows that the item is in transit, you can inform that to the buyer and ask for their preference for a refund or waiting a few more days for the item. But, if the item has been in transit without movement for seven days (10 for the international deliveries), you will have to pay the refund.
- You can send a replacement item, only if the buyer agrees for that. You can Send a message to the buyer to discuss their preferences.
- You can ask for eBay’s help to resolve such issues in the resolution center too. But, do that as a last resort. Usually, eBay resolves things in favor of the buyer (in my own experience). Also, if the eBay decides the buyer was right, this can harm your seller standards too. So, try to resolve things within these 3 days.
How to handle returns when selling on eBay
Sometimes the buyers can change their mind about the product and ask to return that to you. So, when you create a listing on eBay, you can select whether you accept the returns or not. But, also remember that if the item is damaged or faulty, the buyer is always entitled to a return.
- If the item is damaged or faulty, you must have to accept the return request, regardless of your return policy. Sometimes the buyer might agree for a partial refund (for example, if the item has a minor defect and the buyer is ok to keep the item), replacement or an exchange.
- If you have chosen to accept the returns, you have to accept any return requests from the buyer, even if they simply change their mind about the product. And, same as for the previous case, the buyer will ask for a return, full-refund, partial-refund, replacement, or an exchange.
- If you have chosen not to accept the returns, you don’t have an obligation to accept the return requests, unless the item is damaged or faulty. But, if you like, you can even accept the returns too. This will help you to get better customer review. If you do so, make sure to get a good customer review in exchange.

- Go to your Returns dashboard.
- Select Accept the return to continue.
- If you need to pay for the return shipping, select how you would like to arrange the return shipping.
- Otherwise, select your return address from the dropdown menu and confirm.

- Select Offer a partial refund to Continue.
- Enter the refund amount, and select Send offer.
You can also send a message to the buyer with your offer. And, the buyer can choose to accept or reject your refund offer.
How to decline a return on eBay
- Go to your Returns dashboard.
- Select Decline the return to Continue.
- If applicable, enter the reason to decline the request (the buyer won’t see this).
- Select Decline return.
Please note that you can decline a return only if you had selected not to accept returns (when creating the listing) and the reason for return is just because the buyer has changed their mind.
